Clutter Reduction

This is the question that was posed… “Where can you reduce clutter in your life?”

When I hear the word clutter, I usually think about the emotional, mental and spiritual clutter that can be harbored within. However, the first thing I thought of when I read the question was material clutter. This is the clutter that is made up of physical items and belongings. Like all clutter it can be difficult to reduce. You know like the drawer commonly known as the ‘junk’ drawer where miscellaneous items are stored or the closet/attic/basement/shed/garage where things get tucked away and forgotten. Where is your clutter kept?

Is this space out of sight and out of mind? Could it be that it is in sight and not seen or seen and ignored? What about the organized clutter? Organized clutter was my favorite and I was good at it. As I saw it, if it was organized it couldn’t be considered clutter, right? I have learned that when it comes to physical clutter it’s not a matter of items not having a purpose. Rather, it’s a matter of whether the purpose for the items still exists.

When you begin to reduce your clutter, ask yourself? What was the purpose of the item? Does that purpose still exist? If not, does it have a new purpose? Does the purpose still serve you? If not, what is the reason for holding on to or keeping it? I have gotten a lot better over the years with “material” clutter. There is still more to do because as with most things, it is an ongoing process.

However, there is clutter that has eluded me and it may you as well. I didn’t consider it clutter per se as I do with material items because it is kept in a digital space. Yes, you are correct. This digital clutter I speak of pertains to emails, texts, phone contacts, social media contacts, etc. The only time I was exposed to the clutter was when I was using it and then it was easy to just click out of it and poof, it was gone… out of sight and out of mind. The past few weeks I have found myself cleaning out multiple email accounts, phone contacts, social media contacts and text conversations as well as computer files. This could explain the reason for my initial thought to the question being material clutter. I found this process energizing and believe you will to.

Whether it is material or digital… clutter is clutter. All clutter has an affect on you.

Think about where you can reduce clutter in your life and take the time to do it.

Blessings of Love & Light,

Thank you for your comment. There is definitely a need to be aware of Energy Vampires in your life… especially the ones whom you spend a lot of time with. It is up to you how best to deal with the situation which could involve cutting ties with a person (s). ~ Robbie
