One thought usually leads to another.
Questions may arise through the thought process. Questions of doubt and uncertainty… Is this truth? or Is it real? Questions that lead to different topics. Questions for deeper thought… What is the purpose/meaning?
As an example, thoughts regarding many recent events have led me to the word ‘control’. This thought was followed by the question… What is used for keeping or gaining control? The answer is fear. The answer led to deeper thought. Fear is a powerful tool used for gaining, regaining or maintaining control. This is a tactic that has been used throughout history. Fear can be used by others, if you allow it, to have control over you. Fear can also be used by you, if you allow it, to have control over yourself. Common denominator of both is… “if you allow it”.
Examples of Fear
Fear of loss or gain that leads to greed.
Fear of being seen that one is invisible to the world.
Fear of success that one does not succeed.
Fear of failure that one does not try.
Fear of the unknown that one stays inside the box.
Fear of the truth that one lives in falsehoods.
Fear of change that one remains in one’s comfort zone.
Fear of growth that one remains closed minded.
And the list goes on and on!
Your thoughts can lead you on a search for information that provides insight, understanding, explanation, truth, enlightenment, re-discovery, etc. In other words… a quest for knowledge.
I have found, like many things throughout history and today, that one’s focus can get placed on one aspect in order to create a specific and desired response. This happens a lot if you read or listen to the media. They use what are referred to as narratives or talking points that are continuously repeated with the desired result that you will not think past them although they are not the entire story. It is up to you to reject this premise. Do not allow them to limit your thinking. As it has been said, “every story has two sides”. The truth is usually found somewhere between both. You were created with your own mind for thinking independently.
Quote from the movie, “Dangerous Minds” (1995)
“Your brain is like a muscle. If you want it to be strong, you got to work it out.”
~ Louanne Johnson (Michelle Pfeiffer)
Whether like-minded or different-minded, being an independent thinker is about thinking for yourself. Explore your thoughts. Find answers to questions that arise. Find answers to the questions that arise from the answer that you found.
Begin, restart or continue your quest for knowledge.
One may be surprised what one may discover and learn on one’s quest.
This has reminded me of something that I wrote many years ago:
“Questions lead to answers.
Answers lead to questions.
It’s a cycle one never wants to break.
Without it, change will not take place and growth will not occur.”
~ R.K. Benedict
So I ask you…
Does one thought lead to another?
Do you explore your thoughts?
Do you seek answers to your questions?
Is your thinking limited by narratives or talking points?
Are you an independent thinker?

RKB
