Dream Big

Encouragement is given, starting at a young age, to do a lot of things in life. One being to dream. To dream of the future. Being told to dream big and shoot for the stars has been repeated from generation to generation. What is your dream?

What do you aspire to become or do with your life?

Dream encouragement is given to motivate, uplift or support a person and their dream. There is also what I refer to as influential dream encouragement. This is when someone pushes another in a certain direction based on their own wishes or expectations instead of the person’s wishes.

The encouragement given either by another or even yourself is sometimes, maybe a lot of times, can lack what I believe to be a key component. That component is the focus of this article. What do you think it is?

It is not uncommon for there to be steppingstones to reach a dream. These steppingstones are achievements or progress that move you closer to making your dream come true. These steppingstones are meant to be celebrated. Living your journey every stop of the way. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

During this process, it is possible to become engrossed with the destination… the end result. When the end result is made the sole focus, blinders are put on. The blinders create what is known as tunnel vision. With tunnel vision, all that can be seen is the desired result. Now this may be great in a drag race but when it comes to life not so much. Blocking everything else out disconnects you from life and the journey is disregarded. It is disregarded in the respect that the journey is not embraced, enjoyed or lived. Think about all that is missed.

Example: Have you ever worked on something or did something that took precedence over everything else? I think everyone can relate to this in some way. It could be doing projects, reading a book or binge watching tv. This concept can be applied to many things. I know I have done it, especially when writing. The difference between these things and dreams is the time it takes to complete them. When it comes to most of them, it can be hours, days or months whereas it can take years, decades or possibly a lifetime for dreams to come true. Which tunnel vision time frame do you think is easier to bounce back from?

An issue with patience can arise with tunnel vision. Patience can wear thin during the process when things do not happen as quickly as you want them to or when faced with setbacks (obstacles). This can take a toll on a person. Not to mention the energy that is exerted while attempting to maintain one’s focus. From this, the possibility exists to give in to the “down” side such as disappointment, depression, anger, envy, jealousy, self-loathing and even self-sabotage to name a few.

It is also possible for the opposite of tunnel vision to occur. This can be referred to as the cloud state. In a cloud state, one is always floating or has one’s head in the clouds. Some may call these pipe dreams. Some may call them daydreams. Being in the clouds this way, makes it possible for the initiative to be lax or the work unfulfilled that is needed to reach the dream. An illusion can also be created and embraced in which the dream seems to be a reality.

Over excitement or stimulation can be the result from boastful encouragement (ego based). This ego driving encouragement may also create an over confidence from thoughts of perceived grandeur (conceit). The “down” side discussed above can also be reached as a result of this.

Is it possible that these conditions can be minimized with the inclusion of a simple component? What is this component?

I believe that the missing component is grounding. Although some may be taught it or learn it at some point in life, many are not taught and do not learn it. Grounding also applies to life. In my opinion, this is a practice that adults and children should learn and apply.

So, what is it? Grounding is connecting to the earth and to yourself. It is an anchor that helps to hold you steady through the ups and downs in life. Have you ever heard these phrases… “being down to earth” or “come down to earth”? Do these phrases not refer to grounding? You are energy. Right? When energetically grounded much like electrical systems, you stabilize the “voltage” (force) of the energetic “current” received and returned. Being grounded also limits energetic surges. What this means is that being grounded helps you to remain calm in emergencies, helps you to respond instead of react, helps you to overcome challenges as well as obstacles encountered, helps to maintain balance and more. It seems having a good practice of keeping one’s composure and maintaining an even keel would be beneficial.

Some grounding practices include journaling, going barefoot in the grass, spending time outside, taking deep breaths, using the conscious awareness pause, taking timeouts, meditating, counting, laughing, practicing gratitude, dancing, saying affirmations, being artistic… sketch ~n~ draw, creating, etc.

Being grounded can keep you from becoming absorbed or flighty in the pursuit of your dreams. This means throughout the entire pursuit… prior to, during and after reaching it. It is a practice that can also help you to keep your ego in check. Having a checked ego avoids it from becoming inflated and you lost in it. It is important to note that the level of fame or success obtained has no bearing overall because it does not change the fact that all are the same… human.

When grounding is exhibited, it can be seen by others. It is seen in the way a grounded person conducts themselves through their words, actions, thoughts, reactions and responses. A grounded person sees others as they see themselves… nothing more and nothing less.

Isn’t being humble a result of this grounding practice?

Grounding is important for every step forward and every step that seems to go backwards. It helps you to stay in the moment of every step. When you are grounded you embrace, enjoy and live the whole journey. Being grounded helps you to be realistic as to not fool yourself because you can notice if and when a change is needed. This change may be in reference to the course you are on, methods being used, obstacles encountered, time frames and of course, the dream itself.

As for the latter, it may be realized that the dream you are pursuing is not actually yours. It may be realized that it was someone else’s dream for you or that it was something instilled/believed to be expected of you such as following in the footsteps of another. It may be that you were influenced by someone or something such as a title, compensation or notoriety that the dream provides. Whatever the circumstance the choice was made to accept it and pursue it as your own. This by no means implies that you are bound to it. Just as you made that choice, you can make another to go in a different direction.

Being grounded aids all four bodies as they are connected (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual). It can help ease the negative aspects of your pursuit… meaning the ability to bounce back from setbacks and obstacles encountered. Also, it can help boost the positive aspects… meaning it can energize your drive to continue your pursuit. Negative and positive things such as disappointment, frustration, anger, guilt, determination, strength, insight, achievement, faith, setbacks and more. All of which can be experienced in the pursuit of a dream.

Energetic One, I encourage you to dream big keeping at least one foot on the ground.

Blessings of Love & Light,

RKB
