You have probably heard the phrase, “money is the root of all evil”. Do you believe this to be true?

There is a valid point to the phrase, however, the object of focus is not the real issue. Like many things throughout history and today, the focus was/is placed on something to create a specific response or instill a certain mind-set about it. The object used is a common denominator that is simple, understandable, relatable and impactful. What makes the tangible object of money supposedly evil? It is not money itself. It is the mentality a person may have regarding it. Mentalities such as greed, power, elitism and conceit or it may be the opposite. Does money determine success and failure? No.

Mentalities are reflected in one’s perspective, speech, action and reaction. Where do you think the real issue is found? Is it in a temporary mind-set, a constant mind-set, an evolving mind-set or something else? The something else being a consuming mind-set that is unhealthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. A consuming mind-set is one that encases a life by not allowing anything else to be considered or entertained outside of the chosen mind-set. This type of mind-set is the only focus so that is where the energy flows. In defense of said mind-set, justification is also perceived for any wrong doing or crime committed in the process. The voice of those who do not agree with a consumed mind-set are shut out. Sometimes they are vilified or even worse considered an enemy.

Extreme ideology is a consuming mind-set. Is this the true root of all evil? I say yes.

As you can see, the red represents the extreme zones, the yellow/orange represents that caution zones and the green represents the balance zones with the green line being a balanced state. You have a choice to stay or move your zone position.

Replace the word ‘ideology’ with other aspects of life and see where you are on the spectrum for each. You may find your position varies based on the topic which provides insight for reflection. It is my hope that you will choose to strive to live every aspect of your life in the green zone fluctuating within it or back to it when darkness is encountered.
